Nominations – Competition Description and Criteria

The Outstanding Young Farmers Competition is divided into two levels: Regional and National.

Individual(s) will first compete at a regional level, using the nomination form [124kb pdf] provided by the Regional Executive. The application must be completed in full. Applications may be pre-judged by the local regional committee to arrive at a maximum of four finalists.

After Nomination is completed and accepted, a completed financial statement is required at both the regional and national levels. These records are held in complete confidence only seen by the judges.

A 6-image power point of the finalist’s operations are required to be presented at the Regional Event.

Along with a questionnaire to be filled out and returned to the Nominations Chair person.

Regional winner(s) will receive a trip to the National Event as guest of Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers Program.


Nominations Criteria

Nominees may be an individual, couple or managing partner/shareholder of a farm group. Nominees may be two partners in a farming operation (i.e. brothers) who meet all the criteria requirements..

Nominee must be responsible for the majority of management decisions in operating the farm. The nominee must derive a minumum of two-thirds of gross revenue from farming and not have reached the age of 40 as of January 1 in the year of competition.

A letter of support (on formal letterhead) from a third party must accompany the application form at the regional level.
